How the Pokemon Scarlet team builder works
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, released for Nintendo Switch in 2022, are the first fully open-world main series games. Paldea lets you take the eight Gyms, the five Titans and the five Team Star bases in any order, which makes planning a team more interesting than in older games: what you can catch depends on where you go first. This Pokemon Scarlet team builder lists every Pokémon you can obtain, tab by tab: Paldea Pokédex (418), Kitakami Pokédex (105), Blueberry Pokédex (181), Other Pokémon (36). Pokémon you can only bring in from HOME are left out.
Everything works the same as a Pokemon Violet team builder. Scarlet exclusives carry an S badge and Violet exclusives a V badge, so a Violet player can skip Armarouge and grab Ceruledge instead. Types use the modern chart with Fairy. Pick six, check the weakness panel, then open the team in our full planner, where you can also give each member a Tera Type. That makes this page a Pokemon Scarlet team builder and a Pokemon Violet team planner in one.
Sample teams in the Pokemon Scarlet team builder
The sample teams are built around each Paldea starter. They cover the Gyms, the Elite Four and Geeta, and lean on Pokémon available in both versions so the same team works in the Pokemon Violet team builder. Load one above and swap members freely.

Scarlet vs Violet exclusives
These Pokémon only appear in one version. Ancient Paradox Pokémon are Scarlet only and Future Paradox Pokémon are Violet only:
- Scarlet only: Drifloon, Drifblim, Armarouge, Tauros (Paldean Form), Stunky, Skuntank, Oranguru, Larvitar, Pupitar, Tyranitar, Stonjourner, Skrelp, Dragalge, Deino, Zweilous, Hydreigon, Great Tusk, Scream Tail, Brute Bonnet, Flutter Mane, Slither Wing, Sandy Shocks, Roaring Moon, Koraidon (Apex Build), Gligar, Gliscor, Cramorant, Cranidos, Rampardos, Vulpix (Alolan Form), Ninetales (Alolan Form), Gouging Fire, Raging Bolt, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Ho-Oh, Latios, Groudon, Reshiram, Solgaleo, Glastrier.

The Pokemon Scarlet team builder hides nothing: exclusives stay selectable, with the badge reminding you that you need a trade. Use the version exclusives tool to build a trade list.
Paldea Gym Leaders by level
The order below follows the Gym levels, which is the order most players take. Every Gym Leader's ace Terastallizes into the Gym's type, so Brassius's Sudowoodo becomes a Grass-type and Ryme's Toxtricity a Ghost-type for the final turns.
| Trainer | Location | Type | Ace |
|---|---|---|---|
| Katy | Cortondo | Bug | Teddiursa Lv. 15 |
| Brassius | Artazon | Grass | Sudowoodo Lv. 17 |
| Iono | Levincia | Electric | Mismagius Lv. 24 |
| Kofu | Cascarrafa | Water | Crabominable Lv. 30 |
| Larry | Medali | Normal | Staraptor Lv. 36 |
| Ryme | Montenevera | Ghost | Toxtricity Lv. 42 |
| Tulip | Alfornada | Psychic | Florges Lv. 45 |
| Grusha | Glaseado Mountain | Ice | Altaria Lv. 48 |
Because the ace changes type, a team that only answers the ace's normal typing can be caught out. Check the Gym type row in the weakness panel of the Pokemon Scarlet team builder rather than the ace's own types.
Titans, Team Star and the Elite Four
The Path of Legends Titans are Klawf (Rock), Bombirdier (Flying/Dark), Orthworm (Steel), Great Tusk in Scarlet or Iron Treads in Violet (Ground), and Dondozo with Tatsugiri. Team Star's bosses specialise in Dark (Giacomo), Fire (Mela), Poison (Atticus), Fairy (Ortega) and Fighting (Eri). After all eight badges, the Pokémon League looks like this:
| Trainer | Role | Type | Ace |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rika | Elite Four | Ground | Clodsire Lv. 58 |
| Poppy | Elite Four | Steel | Tinkaton Lv. 59 |
| Larry | Elite Four | Flying | Flamigo Lv. 60 |
| Hassel | Elite Four | Dragon | Baxcalibur Lv. 61 |
| Geeta | Top Champion | Mixed | Glimmora Lv. 62 |
Rika's Ground team is mostly weak to Water, Grass and Ice. Poppy's Steel-types mostly fall to Fire, Fighting and Ground. Larry switches to Flying here, so Electric, Ice and Rock work. Hassel's Dragons take super-effective damage from Ice, Dragon and Fairy. Geeta closes with Glimmora, a Rock/Poison that is four times weak to Ground.
Tera Types and the Pokemon Scarlet team builder
Terastallizing changes a Pokémon's type for the rest of a battle, which can turn a weakness into a resistance at the right moment. The team planner on this page shows regular types so you can build a sound team first. The full builder adds a Tera Type toggle for every slot, so you can see how a Tera Fairy Garchomp or a Tera Water Skeledirge changes the team's weaknesses before you spend Tera Shards on it.
Tips for building a Scarlet or Violet team
- Plan for the Titans as well as the Gyms: the Ground Titan and the Water/Dragon Titan are among the toughest early fights.
- Fairy and Steel are the best defensive types in Paldea. Tinkaton, Corviknight or Gardevoir make good glue for almost any team.
- Use the Kitakami and Blueberry tabs of the Pokemon Scarlet team builder to plan your DLC team, then compare it with the story team.
- Check single matchups with the type calculator.
Pokemon Scarlet team builder FAQ
Is this a Pokemon Scarlet team builder or a Pokemon Violet team builder?
Both. This Pokemon Scarlet team builder also works as a Pokemon Violet team builder and team planner: it lists 740 Pokémon across the Paldea Pokédex, Kitakami and Blueberry dexes and marks the Scarlet-only and Violet-only ones.
Does the Pokemon Scarlet team builder include DLC Pokémon?
Yes. The Kitakami Pokédex (The Teal Mask) and the Blueberry Pokédex (The Indigo Disk) each have their own tab, so you can plan a post-game or DLC team as easily as a story team.
Can I set Tera Types in the team builder?
The team planner on this page uses each Pokémon's regular types. Open the team in the full builder to set a Tera Type for each member and see how it changes your weaknesses.
What is a good story team for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?
Skeledirge, Gyarados, Pawmot, Garchomp, Tinkaton and Corviknight covers every Gym, the Elite Four and Geeta, and every member is available in both versions. Load it as the Fuecoco sample team.
Which Gym should I do first in Scarlet and Violet?
You can take the Gyms in any order, but their levels are fixed. Katy in Cortondo (ace Lv. 15) is the easiest, then Brassius, Iono, Kofu, Larry, Ryme, Tulip and Grusha (ace Lv. 48).
Can I share a team from the Pokemon Scarlet team builder?
Yes. Open the team in the full builder and copy the address bar: the game and all six Pokémon are stored in the link. Tera Types are set in the builder itself.
